In order to qualify to become a U.S. Citizen, you must have been a permanent resident for five years.  However, if you gained your permanent resident status as a result of being married to a U.S. Citizen, you can apply after only three years.  You are eligible to submit the application 90 days or less before the actual date you are eligible.  Children under 18 automatically become citizens when their parents are naturalized.
